In this episode of The Deschutes Current Podcast, I sit down with Sarah from the Deschutes Land Trust. Sarah is the Community Engagement Director and has been with the organization for over two decades. Her work focuses on the public program and getting people involved with the Land Trust, as well as connecting with partner organizations across Central Oregon.
The work the Land Trust does to conserve, protect, and restore is vital to the lands and water of our region here in Central Oregon. The High Desert landscape is unique and requires a whole systems approach to address challenges like Climate Change, natural disasters, and the growing human footprint on the places we love so dearly. Sarah shares insights about conservation efforts, restoration projects, and the ongoing work needed to steward these landscapes for future generations.
Sarah's work naturally connects people with the land and nature around us. In addition to conservation projects, the Deschutes Land Trust hosts community programs like Nature Nights, offering informal community gatherings and learning sessions that bring people together to learn about ecology, wildlife, waters, and the land that defines life around us here in Central Oregon.
Sarah's work reminds us that conservation isn't just about protecting land, it's about building relationships between people and the places they call home. When communities understand and connect with the natural world around them, stewardship becomes something we all share, and it becomes natural to care for it and protect the land for generations, in perpetuity.
